Testing Swings

This week, Mia has been testing the swings in three different counties. After much deliberation, the results are in and they make for interesting reading:

  • West Yorkshire – Funny
  • Derbyshire – Funny but dark and dingy
  • North Yorkshire – Funny

Yesterday was a vicious brute of a day, so it was nice to see sunshine and clear skies this morning – a chance to conduct the third test, pick up some of the stuff that had blown over around the garden, and clean out the chicken house. Being Sunday, some flesh is in the process of being roasted behind me. This week it’s part of a pig, though I have no idea which part, and it will come with roast potatoes.

Evidently shaping up to be a proper tyke.

Funnily enough we took her to Crazy Tykes this week as well.

I would post a proper coloured rose to counter yours but it’s late.

What could be more proper than the rose already shown?

Apart from being the wrong colour, it’s upside down. Swing #3, by the way, was in the heart of York itself, and we passed Towton on the way home – bear that in mind before posting any more roses.

I’m not entering into discussion about what colour it should be, but will take seriously your suggestion that it’s upside down. I’ve not been able to get a definitive answer yet. I have screwed up Wikipedia in trying to get an answer, however. Oops.

Well, your image looks the same as the one they’re using on Wikipedia, which is the opposite way up from the White Rose. However, here is at least one example of it not being ‘upside down’: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Lancaster

The problem is with the Wikipedia image at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Lancashire_rose.svg which has two different versions, one an inversion of the other.
Because of the interconnected nature of the web, most other online instances of the Rose are derivatives of that one. I need to find several independent sources that show the rose one way up or the other.
Alternatively, I could switch to another flower completely pending further (probably offline) research.
